One of our strongest memories of Tim Wakefield is of him solemnly walking off the mound after that pitch to Aaron Boone in 2003. In many ways and in that moment, The Red Seat was started. We were all devastated, but to consider how he must have felt, was really kind of unthinkable. Miraculously, he put it behind him and we all know what happened that next season. His contribution coming out of the bullpen for game 5 of the ALCS paved the way for the victory.
That was one of many great memories that Wake gave us but he was more than just a quirky pitcher on an equally quirky team. He was a selflessly charitable man, a dad, a husband and friend. It’s a heartbreaking loss.
There’s not a lot more to say that hasn’t already been said, so today we announce, “Wake”. 100% of the profits of this shirt will be donated to The Jimmy Fund in Tim’s memory. RIP Tim Wakefield. You will be truly missed.
